Veonics® Product Development Engineer — Part-Time
Build Practical Identity Technology With Us
eXpress badging® is seeking an experienced, hands-on software engineer to work directly with our CTO and Veonics EcoSYSTEM™ Architect.
Our CTO has established the product vision, architecture, and technical direction. We need another dependable set of hands—someone who can accept a defined feature or problem, build it correctly, test and document the work, and carry it through completion without constant supervision.
This is a fractional position, but it is not a junior position. We need an experienced builder who knows how to use modern AI-assisted development tools without sacrificing security, quality, or maintainability.
Position Overview
Position: Veonics EcoSYSTEM™ Product Development Engineer
Commitment: Approximately 8 hours per week/32 hours a month
Work arrangement: Part-time employee or independent contractor, based on the final arrangement
Reports to: CTO and Veonics EcoSYSTEM™ Architect
Initial focus: MyBADGING™ and VerifyMYBADGE™ development
Location: Remote, with reliable Eastern Time collaboration required
Growth potential: Hours and responsibilities may expand as the platform develops

REVIEW OUR TEAM BUILDING PROCESS
About the Position
The Product Development Engineer will work directly with our CTO to build and refine secure web and mobile applications within the architecture, security requirements, and priorities established for the Veonics EcoSYSTEM™.
This is not a management, strategy-only, or help-desk position. It is a hands-on role for someone who can:
- Understand a clearly defined requirement.
- Ask the right questions before beginning.
- Build a clean, practical solution.
- Test and secure the work.
- Document what was developed.
- Deliver a reviewable pull request.
- Communicate risks and blockers early.
The right person will use AI-assisted development tools to increase speed while applying sound engineering judgment to every material piece of code.
We value demonstrated ability, practical output, accountability, security, and maintainability more than educational pedigree.
Primary Responsibilities
- Build and refine MyBADGING™ and VerifyMYBADGE™ features under the CTO’s technical direction.
- Develop and maintain Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, React or Next.js, API, and PostgreSQL-based components.
- Translate Jira tickets and product requirements into clean, reviewable, production-quality code.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate prototyping, testing, debugging, refactoring, and documentation.
- Personally validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, scalability, readability, and maintainability.
- Design and integrate RESTful services, JSON data structures, database workflows, and third-party services.
- Perform code reviews, bug fixes, performance improvements, and technical troubleshooting.
- Maintain organized repositories, branches, pull requests, technical documentation, and deployment procedures.
- Assist with CI/CD, cloud deployment, monitoring, and production troubleshooting.
- Follow security-first, HIPAA-conscious development practices.
- Protect company credentials, repositories, intellectual property, test data, and customer information.
- Communicate progress, decisions, risks, dependencies, and blockers consistently.
Required Qualifications
- Strong hands-on development experience with Python.
- Strong working knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript and React or Next.js.
- Experience building and integrating REST APIs and working with JSON.
- Experience with PostgreSQL or a comparable relational database.
- Competence with Git, GitHub, branching, pull requests, and code review.
- Ability to test, debug, refactor, secure, and document AI-generated code.
- Sound understanding of secure cloud-application development and data protection.
- A portfolio, code samples, or completed products demonstrating practical development ability.
- Ability to work independently and produce meaningful results within limited weekly hours.
Preferred Experience
Experience in all these areas is not required, but familiarity with one or more would be valuable:
- AWS cloud services and cloud-based deployment.
- Supabase or comparable backend platforms.
- Docker and containerized deployments.
- CI/CD pipelines, application monitoring, and production support.
- OAuth, SSO, enterprise authentication, authorization, and multi-tenant SaaS design.
- n8n or comparable workflow-automation tools.
- Jira or comparable project-management systems.
- Healthcare, identity management, physical access control, credentialing, or security systems.
- Kubernetes, when relevant to future deployment requirements.
AI-Assisted Development
We want an engineer who understands how to use AI as leverage—not someone who commits code simply because an AI tool generated it.
The engineer should be comfortable using Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or comparable AI-assisted development platforms.
The successful candidate must be able to:
- Use AI to accelerate prototypes, testing, debugging, documentation, and repetitive development work.
- Review and understand all material AI-generated code before committing it.
- Validate authentication, authorization, data isolation, error handling, and security-sensitive workflows.
- Refactor prototypes into maintainable, production-quality components.
- Explain what AI produced, what the engineer changed, and what was personally verified.
AI should increase development speed and quality. It does not replace engineering responsibility.
The Working Style We Value
- A strong communicator who provides concise, dependable progress updates.
- Highly accountable, coachable, and responsive to technical direction.
- Low ego and comfortable working directly with the CTO and EBS leadership.
- A proactive problem solver who identifies risks and blockers early.
- Comfortable working in a focused, fast-moving environment where requirements continue to mature.
- Able to deliver consistent output without constant supervision.
- Protective of security, confidentiality, documentation, and company-owned intellectual property.
What Success Looks Like
During the First 30 Days
- Establish the approved development environment and access controls.
- Learn the relevant architecture, repositories, coding standards, and workflow.
- Complete one small, well-defined pull request.
- Demonstrate secure handling of credentials, repositories, and test data.
- Improve at least one piece of technical documentation.
By 60 Days
- Complete a defined MyBADGING™ or VerifyMYBADGE™ feature with appropriate testing and documentation.
- Use Jira and GitHub workflows consistently.
- Demonstrate thoughtful review and validation of AI-assisted work.
- Communicate scope questions, dependencies, and blockers before they delay delivery.
By 90 Days
- Independently complete defined tickets with limited supervision.
- Produce clean, secure, reviewable pull requests that meet acceptance criteria.
- Improve test coverage, deployment repeatability, or development documentation.
- Consistently deliver approximately 8–10 productive hours per week.
- Demonstrate the judgment and reliability required for broader responsibility.
